Rules & Regulations

  • NSC MEMBERSHIP

    1. Exhibitors must be 21 or younger on January 1st of the calendar year in which they enroll.

    2. Members do not have to be from the state of Nebraska. There is also no minimum or maximum amount of shows that members are required to meet, however top 6 point totals will be calculated.

    3. Purebred hogs must show purebred registration papers at EACH sanctioned show at time of check-in.

    4. Registration forms and payment are due by the conclusion of the second sanctioned show.

    5. A membership fee of $30 per junior exhibitor is required by completion of the 5th sanctioned show at the time the membership registration is turned in. Member registration turned in after the deadline will require a $20 late fee and will be accepted until the conclusion of the eighth sanctioned show.

    6. Exhibitors must comply with rules and regulations of all sanctioned shows. Show managers reserve the right to remove or disqualify any exhibitor or hog not in accordance with their guidelines at their discretion.

    NSC TITLE WEEKEND

    7. The Nebraska Swine Circuit “Title Weekend” will conclude the points series. It will consist of the Title Drive, which will be the last NSC show, the year-end points ceremony, and a sweepstakes competition that will consist of skill-a-thon, showmanship, and speaking contests.

    8. Only registered Nebraska Swine Circuit members will be eligible to exhibit in the NSC Title Drive.

    9. The show will be held over the duration of a weekend with junior contests and showmanship being held Saturday afternoon and evening and the breeding and market shows Sunday morning.

    10. Following the conclusion of the show, the year-end point ceremony will be held immediately after final point tabulations have been completed.

    POINT AWARD CEREMONY

    11. Prizes will be awarded to the following points exhibitors- grand and reserve of each breed, top five purebred, top five crossbred, and the top five overall exhibitors.

    12. The top five showmen will receive awards in each age division. Ties will be broken based on placement at the finale.

    13. The Gilt of the Year and Barrow of the Year titles will be rewarded to the specific breeding gilt and market hog that have received the most grand overall finishes. Ties will be broken by amount of reserve finishes, then third overall, fourth overall, and fifth overall finishes.

    14. Showman of the Year will be awarded to the showman that wins the most shows in their age division. There will be an overall showman selected at the Title Drive, and this will serve as the tiebreaker.

    15. All remaining ties will be broken based on placement at Title Weekend.

    16. Prizes and cash awards will be based off of sponsorship and funding from that year.

    POINT GUIDELINES

    Regulations

    17. Points will be calculated after the conclusion of each sanctioned show and updated weekly to reflect results. Points will be recorded separately for breeding gilts and market hogs.

    18. Gilts can show both ways, and will be recorded separately as breeding and market.

    19. Exhibitors’ points will not be included in results until they have paid and enrolled as a member of the Nebraska Swine Circuit.

    20. Points will follow the exhibitor, not the individual hog. In order for the exhibitor to receive points they must be showing the hog in the ring. Special circumstances, such as an exhibitor having two head in the same class, must be approved by an NSC representative at the show.

    21. The exhibitors SIX highest point totals from the twelve sanctioned shows will go towards their overall total. Exhibitors may show at more than six shows to replace points, but totals will only include the six highest totals.

    22. Each hog’s point total will receive 5 bonus points at the Title Drive, however the Title Drive is not required to be one of the shows included in each exhibitor’s total points.

    23. Point standings will be recorded in both breeding and market for each breed, the purebred and crossbred divisions, overall breeding and market, and showmanship.

    24. For purebred breed points, exhibitors may show more than one of a given breed but will receive points for only their higher placing hog at each show.

    25. Exhibitors can receive points for both light cross and dark cross hogs. The top five crossbred hogs will be selected from those out of the light cross and dark cross divisions.

    26. Light crosses include any white, blue, red, or roan colored pig. Any hog with black hair on black skin is a dark cross, regardless of amount. This would only not include the tip of the snout.

    27. Overall points will be tabulated including the three highest scoring hogs of each exhibitor at a given show. These three scores can be taken from any breed or crossbred division, meaning an exhibitors total can consist of 3 different purebred breeds, two different breeds and a light or dark cross, or one breed and a light and dark cross.

    28. All top 5 overall breeding and market hogs MUST take a backdrop picture prior to leaving the show in order to receive points.
